4.2 Occupational Health & Safety Policy

Top management of Hager UK have defined and authorised the organisation’s OH&S policy that defines the scope of the OH&S management system.

3. Terms and definitions, 3.16 OH&S policy

OHSAS 18001 defines an OH&S policy as: - overall intentions and direction of an organisation related to its OH&S performance as formally expressed by top management.

NOTE 1: The OH&S policy provides a framework for action and for the setting of OH&S objectives.

  • The policy is appropriate to the nature and scale of the organisation’s OH&S risks.
  • The policy includes a commitment to prevent injury, ill health and continual improvement in OH&S management and performance.
  • The policy includes a commitment (as a minimum) to comply with applicable legal requirements and other requirements to which the organisation subscribes that relate to its OH&S hazards.
  • The policy provides the framework for setting and reviewing the organisation’s OH&S objectives.
  • The policy is documented, implemented and is maintained via the document control process, is authorised and signed by the organisation’s Managing Director.
  • The policy is communicated to all persons working under the control of the organisation via notice boards, intranet and during initial induction for new employee’s, with the intent that they are made aware of their individual OH&S obligations.
  • The policy is available to interested parties through the Hager internet site and reception.
  • By receiving (as a minimum) an annual review, this ensures that the policy remains appropriate to the nature and scale of the organisations OH&S risks.
